The HomeoLux light is designed to be convenient and easy to use. For recommended use, sit facing the light panels in a dimly lit room for at least one hour per day. This can be done during other activities, such as watching TV, as long as HomeoLux is one of the main sources of light.
HomeoLux allows you to customize the brightness, tone, and duration of your lights. Each of these can be adjusted on the control panel.
For evening and nighttime use, we recommend setting the tone dial to the warmest possible setting to minimize the chance of disrupted sleep patterns. If you still experience difficulty sleeping after using the product at night, we recommend sticking to morning or afternoon use.
We recommend using the lights for at least an hour a day, as most available research is based on similar exposure times. A few hours per day may be ideal, as longer durations are associated with increased benefits. To make light sessions more fun, try using HomeoLux while watching your favorite movies.
MIT researchers found that just one hour of exposure to gamma light can lead to a halving of beta amyloid levels in the brains of laboratory mice. While human trials are still forthcoming, some of our trial users have reported significant positive changes in mental acuity within two to three weeks of daily use.
While the effects of gamma light therapy techniques on Alzheimer’s patients are not yet fully understood, scientists believe exposure to light pulsating at 40Hz (gamma) frequencies may stimulate gamma rhythms in the brain vital to working memory and attention. A number of trials have shown a reduction in amyloid plaque buildup, a symptom associated with Alzheimer’s, in the brains of Alzheimer’s-induced mice following repeated exposures to gamma light. Ongoing research and developments in human trials are hoped to provide further insight into the effects of gamma light on the brain.
Amyloid plaques are hard, insoluble pockets of protein fragments (called beta amyloid) that develop between nerve cells in the brain and are associated with cognitive decline. In healthy brains, beta amyloid is broken down and eliminated before it can accumulate. However, in the brains of patients suffering from Alzheimer's, these protein fragments are not cleared away and tend to aggregate or “clump.” While the precise role of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer's remains uncertain, they are one of the definitive neurophsyiological symptoms of the disease.
Gamma frequency refers to rhythms ranging between 30 and 90 Hz beats per second. Brain waves in this frequency are associated with working memory, attention and coordination, and are often diminished in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Exposure to gamma frequency light pulsations have been shown to excite gamma waves in the brains of Alzheimer's mice, and the technique is currently being tested in humans. Homeolux gamma lights pulsate at 40Hz frequencies, the same rate used by MIT researchers.
No known drug interactions occur with the use of HomeoLux, but you should consult a doctor before use if you have concerns regarding specific medication interactions. HomeoLux should not be used to replace medications or other prescribed treatments for Alzheimer’s patients.
HomeoLux is designed for use as an experimental Alzheimer’s therapy. You should not use this product if you have a history of seizures or epilepsy, or have been diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy. Consult a doctor before use if you believe you may be prone to photosensitive epileptic seizures. Children should not be allowed to play with HomeoLux products.
Recent research has indicated that amyloid plaques begin to build up in brain 15 to 20 years before any behavioral symptoms of Alzheimer's become apparent. Other research has shown that, in laboratory mice, reduced occurrence of gamma oscillations can be observed even earlier - before any amyloid plaque buildup whatsoever. These findings suggest the biological precursors to Alzheimer's may be present decades before any noticeable cognitive decline occurs. Because gamma light therapy may operate both to reduce the amount of amyloid plaque buildup and to excite gamma oscilations in the brain, the use of HomeoLux may have a positive effect in the prevention of the development of Alzheimer's in at-risk individuals who have not yet been diagnosed with the disease.increasing conversions, and creating a more satisfying shopping experience!
